At The Anchor, we desire to be a place where the hurting, the broken, the depressed, the frustrated, and the confused can find love, hope, peace, acceptance, help, forgiveness, guidance, and encouragement in this difficult life. We believe this is accomplished through the Holy Spirit empowered preaching, proclamation and worship of Jesus Christ among the fellowship of believers.
We want to reflect that through:
THE GOSPEL- WE PREACH JESUS CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED AND RESURRECTED. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, and so, we preach Him and Him crucified. We know that because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is hope for all of us. It is through the darkness of the cross that we find light and life as we discover who God is and the life that He alone can give. The Gospel is the center of Christianity and the cross is the center of the Gospel.
COMMUNITY - WE LIVE LIFE TOGETHER. Discipleship happens when we are intentional in living out the teachings of Jesus within our community. We believe that the shallowness of much of what is called Christianity today is due to the individualism that plagues our culture and, unfortunately, the church. We recognize and submit to the command of scripture to love one another and this cannot happen if our lives do not intersect.
SIMPLICITY - WE BELIEVE IN SIMPLE CHURCH. This is In-N-Out; not Chili's. By keeping the menu simple, we can focus and do things well. We see complexity as a weakness and not as a strength. Buildings, programs and methods do not define a "good" church. We are healthy church when we deepen our commitment and connection to Christ. We believe that growth as a church is the result of knowing Jesus through immersion in His word, prayer, communion, fellowship and song. We want to see lives changed and transformed by the Gospel.
LOVING OUR CITY - WE ARE COMMITTED TO THE CITY OF GILROY. This is the city to which we have been called and strategically placed. This is where we live and it is where we show others the love of Christ. We do not believe the Gospel can change Gilroy unless those who believe in the Gospel actually invest their lives in the city for the glory of Jesus. We desire that Gilroy would be known for it's worship of Jesus Christ more than for it's garlic.
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35
If you’ve been to The Anchor, there have been a team of people that have purposed to serve Jesus by serving you. Whether you are welcomed by greeters at the front doors, teachers in your child’s classroom or even something as simple as a cup of coffee or tea, all this exists because of faithful volunteers. Anything from clean bathrooms stocked with toiletries to musicians on stage leading worship to the loving arms taking care of babies in the Nursery, these are all areas where someone signed up and offered their time and talent for the sake of the Church.
These are our ministry leaders who lovingly serve our teams of volunteers. If you'd like to know more about any of the ministries, click the picture and it will connect you with their email.
